Content Formats That Perform

Reels, in-feed, Stories, UGC — four formats, and an honest account of which one to reach for once you know the goal.

Three platforms, four verticals — fashion, beauty, lifestyle and travel. Somewhere between ten and twenty million people see my content in a given month, and the most common mistake I watch brands make is choosing the format first and the goal second. Pick the goal and the format picks itself.

Reels and TikToks — for reach

Short-form video is the engine. Trending formats, get-ready-with-me, product features, transitions, day-in-the-life, and custom creative built for the brief. TikTok is where this runs hottest for me: 208.9K followers and 4.1M likes, a Gen Z and millennial beauty and fashion community, and a share rate that carries a video well past the people who already follow me. If the objective is for as many people as possible to learn that something exists, this is the format and nothing else is close.

Sponsored posts — for craft

Instagram is my primary platform and the one I hold to the highest visual standard. 243K followers, mostly 18 to 35, across the Philippines and Southeast Asia, who come for fashion editorials, beauty looks, luxury travel and lifestyle. An in-feed photo or carousel is slower than a Reel and that is precisely the point — it is where texture, finish, colour and styling actually read. A perfume, a lipstick shade, a fabric: this is the format that sells the look of a thing rather than the idea of it.

Stories — for proof

Stories are the least polished thing I make and they convert like nothing else, because they are where the audience gets closest to the day-to-day. Unboxings, a product in genuine use across a week, event snippets, polls, links. The value is not production quality, it is evidence. A Reel says a product is good. Five days of Stories shows it still being used on day five, which is a different and much harder claim to fake.

UGC and ad content — for control

Sometimes a brand does not need my audience, it needs my eye. UGC is professional creator content delivered as files for your own channels, your own ads and your own paid campaigns, with nothing posted to my accounts. It is the right answer when you already have distribution and what you are short of is content that does not look like an advertisement, and it comes with six months of usage.

How I would choose

If I were briefing this from the brand side, I would start here:

  • Introducing something new to the largest possible audience — a Reel or TikTok.
  • Selling a shade, a texture or a finish — an in-feed photo or carousel.
  • Proving the product survives real use — Stories, spread across several days.
  • Feeding your own paid ads — UGC, delivered as files.
  • Building recognition rather than a single spike — an ambassadorship, measured in months.

The part that never changes

Whatever the format, the content has to sound like me or it works for neither of us. The 630K+ people across my platforms can tell within about two seconds when something has been handed to me with a script attached, and the moment they can tell, the campaign stops being an endorsement and starts being an ad. Choose the format for the goal, then let me make it in my own voice. That is the entire method.
